Jammu: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday paid rich tributes to the bravehearts of Jammu and Kashmir Police and appealed to people to promote swadeshi by purchasing locally made products crafted by self-help groups and artisans across the country.
Inaugurating the J&K Police’s Diwali Mela in Jammu, the Lieutenant Governor honoured the sacrifices of police personnel who laid down their lives in the service of the nation.
“Let us strengthen our local economy, empower entrepreneurs, create employment opportunities, and reinforce the overall economic framework of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Sinha emphasised that this Diwali, the motto of ‘Vocal for Local’ should inspire everyone to promote self-reliance and national pride.
“I urge every family to buy handicrafts, handloom items, and other traditional products as Diwali gifts. This will not only foster a spirit of patriotism but also support local artisans and small businesses,” he added.
The Diwali Mela, organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Police in collaboration with the Police Wives Welfare Association (PWWA), offers a vibrant mix of attractions, including food and shopping stalls, awareness programmes, career counselling and educational stalls, a live magic show, police band performances, a laser show, and fireworks.
