ANANTNAG, AUGUST 13: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today attended the trophy unveiling ceremony of the Bijbehara Premier League (BPL) at Anantnag. He interacted with players and officials and congratulated the organisers for successfully hosting the tournament.
Describing the BPL as “the most prestigious cricket tournament in J&K UT,” the Lieutenant Governor said it provides a vital platform for players to showcase their talent and secure opportunities at the national and international level. He observed that the league goes beyond being just a competition for the youth of Anantnag and neighbouring districts, making a significant contribution to enhancing the overall quality of sports in Jammu and Kashmir.



Highlighting the Union Territory’s progress in sports, the Lieutenant Governor said, “Under the guidance of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, J&K UT has established its rightful place in the Indian sporting landscape. Over the past five years, we have invested in modern sports infrastructure, fostered a conducive environment for players, and focused on strong strategy and effective grassroots execution to cultivate a thriving sports culture.”
He added that this remarkable progress is the result of the dedication and hard work of sportspersons, coaches, and officials of the J&K Sports Council. “Since 2020, J&K UT has adopted a player-centered approach to develop talent and maximise potential. Efforts have been made to ensure children and youth have ample opportunities to participate in sports activities, reflecting our commitment to inclusive sports development across the Union Territory,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
The Lieutenant Governor also praised the Bijbehara Premier League for emerging as a powerful anti-drug initiative, successfully channelising youth energy through sports.
He further congratulated the people of Anantnag and South Kashmir for the successful conduct of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
