SRINAGAR: Dr. Harsh K. Gupta, former Member of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and ex-Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, today called on Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha. He was accompanied by Prof. Shakil A. Romshoo, Vice Chancellor of the Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST).
The meeting focused on strategies to build a disaster-resilient Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing preparedness and risk reduction. Deliberations included measures to mitigate the impacts of natural hazards through systematic planning, resilient infrastructure, and an informed citizenry. Prof. Romshoo briefed the Lieutenant Governor on IUST’s initiatives to enhance disaster awareness and capacity-building in collaboration with the J&K Disaster Management Authority.
Highlighting the need for a coordinated approach, the Lieutenant Governor stressed the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration—bringing together government agencies, academic institutions, civil society, and local communities—to strengthen the region’s disaster management ecosystem.
