LG Manoj Sinha Urges Writers to Challenge Misleading Historical Narratives, Present Truthful Accounts of Jammu & Kashmir

Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday called upon writers and historians to engage in rigorous research and use factual evidence to challenge and correct misleading historical accounts. Speaking at the inaugural session of the Kashmir Literature Festival organized by the Srikula Foundation, the Lt Governor emphasized the responsibility of intellectuals to present accurate and unbiased versions of history.

“Writers must conduct research and rely on credible proof to rectify distorted historical narratives,” LG Sinha said. “During the colonial era and after independence, a section of writers deliberately reshaped our history to suit their ideological interests. Young historians must now take the lead in providing authentic, fact-based accounts that counter those distortions.”

He appreciated the growing efforts of new-age writers who, in recent years, have sought to restore fairness to India’s historical and literary record. “The initiative to bring Indian literature and historical truth to the global stage is highly commendable,” he added.

Addressing the narrative around Jammu and Kashmir, the Lt Governor underscored the importance of identifying misinformation and countering it with verified facts. “For decades, a manipulated narrative was promoted here in Jammu and Kashmir. Many writers and media figures have admitted that, under fear of terrorists and their ecosystem, they were compelled to endorse the narrative pushed from across the border,” he said.

“With the dismantling of the terror ecosystem, it is now time to present the true story of Jammu and Kashmir—one free from bias and fear. This truthful narrative will strengthen trust and drive socio-economic progress,” LG Sinha asserted.

He also urged writers to offer new perspectives and visionary ideas in an era of rapid transformation, to help readers navigate unprecedented challenges and opportunities while deepening their understanding of nature, culture, and human well-being.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Lt Gen (Retd.) D.P. Pandey, Shri Yuvraj Srivastava, Founder of Srikula Foundation, senior officials, prominent literary personalities, members of the Srikula Foundation, and a large gathering of youth and citizens from diverse backgrounds.
