Srinagar: Amid continuous rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir over the past two days, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday reviewed the administration’s preparedness to tackle possible flooding.
According to an official spokesperson, the L-G interacted with senior officials and assessed the situation. He was briefed on ongoing rescue and relief operations being carried out by the Army, Air Force, Central Armed Police Forces, district administrations, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
Authorities informed Sinha that flood-affected residents in Akhnoor had been evacuated to safety by the BSF, NDRF and police. Additionally, around 67 villages in Anantnag, Budgam and Pulwama were shifted to safer locations, while nomadic families in Pulwama and Shopian were provided shelters by local administrations. Nine relief camps have also been set up in Srinagar city.
The L-G directed officials to take preventive steps against water-borne diseases and ensure timely supply of essential items, including food grains, blankets, medicines, LPG cylinders and safe drinking water. He also emphasized the speedy restoration of electricity in affected areas.
Urging citizens to remain cautious and follow all safety measures, Sinha expressed his condolences over the loss of lives in Kangri village, Sunderbani, Rajouri district, where a mother and daughter were killed after their mud house collapsed during heavy rains early Wednesday.
