Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday urged the adoption of modern technology to effectively counter the “fabricated” narratives being spread by inimical elements in the Union Territory.

Speaking at the Police Commemoration Day function in Srinagar, the Lieutenant Governor called upon security forces to work towards ensuring lasting peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.

The event was attended by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, cabinet ministers, MLAs, senior police officials, officers from other security forces, and members of the civil administration.

Highlighting the importance of technological advancement, Sinha said, “There is a need to embrace modern technology to deal with those spreading false narratives. By adopting innovative and smart tools, we can further strengthen the capabilities of our police force.”

Reflecting on the transformation witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir over the past five years, the LG said historic changes have taken place and stressed the need to preserve the hard-earned peace.

“We must ensure that people live freely and that the environment of peace and prosperity continues undisturbed. Not a single separatist or their handlers should be allowed to disrupt this atmosphere,” he said.

Sinha called upon the people to remember the courage and sacrifices of the police personnel and to pledge their support in maintaining peace and normalcy.

He noted that 1,614 police personnel have laid down their lives over the past decades while fighting terrorism.

“The Jammu and Kashmir Police is renowned for its bravery and supreme sacrifices. I salute their courage and pay my heartfelt tributes to the martyrs who gave their lives for the nation,” the LG said.

Assuring the families of the fallen heroes of full administrative support, Sinha said that while their sacrifices can never be compensated with money, the government will ensure that their loved ones do not face hardships.

He further added that the best way to honour the sacrifices of the martyrs is for the police force to become a driving partner in the region’s development.

“The police must play a vital role in the nation’s progress by sustaining peace and dismantling the ecosystem of terrorism,” he said.
