LMD fines traders ₹1.31 lakh for violations

JAMMU: The Legal Metrology Enforcement wing has booked three traders in Jammu for overcharging and short weighment following swift action on consumer complaints. The drive was carried out under the supervision of Controller Legal Metrology, Rajinder Singh Tara.

In separate cases, a departmental store was found charging ₹5 above the MRP, a consumer at Jumbo Zoo was overcharged under the false pretext of GST, and a rice dealer was caught supplying underweight bags.

All three were booked under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, and issued show-cause notices. After admitting to the violations, they were fined a total of ₹1.31 lakh, which has been recovered. The traders were also cautioned against repeating such malpractices.

Controller Tara said the department has stepped up enforcement and directed officials to maintain strict vigil. He assured prompt action on genuine consumer complaints and urged the public to report unfair trade practices without hesitation.
