Srinagar, November 19 — Police, along with hospital authorities, carried out surprise inspections of doctors’ lockers in several hospitals across Kashmir today. The checks followed the recent busting of a white-collar terror module in which a number of doctors were arrested.
Senior Superintendent of Police Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary, said the drive was part of heightened preventive measures after the Delhi blast incident. “The special inspection was aimed at identifying unclaimed or improperly labelled lockers to ensure that no facility is left open to misuse under the prevailing security situation,” he explained.
During the exercise at District Hospital Shopian and Community Health Centre Zainapora, all lockers were opened and verified. Lockers without valid ownership were documented for follow-up action. Hospital authorities have been instructed to maintain updated records and enforce strict identification protocols.
Similar checks were also conducted in Kulgam, where police teams and medical officers inspected staff lockers in health institutions. A police spokesman said the initiative was part of efforts to strengthen transparency and accountability in hospital infrastructure.
In Budgam, police teams inspected shops dealing with chemicals, fertilisers and hardware to ensure compliance with safety norms. Surprise checks focused on verifying stock records, sale registers, licences and storage conditions. “These drives will continue to promote lawful trade practices and safeguard the community. Shopkeepers have been advised to maintain proper records and cooperate fully,” the spokesman added.
