Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference President Sajad Lone has strongly condemned the recent demolition drive carried out in Kangan, describing the action as troubling and unjustified. Visuals of a house being razed with furniture and curtains still inside have sparked widespread unease and raised questions about the intent behind the operation.

In his statement, Lone said the demolition appeared sinister, noting that household belongings were not removed prior to the action. He questioned the legality of the move, even if the property was considered commercial in nature. “Assume it was a hotel. How big a crime is it to make a hotel without permission? Are all hotels in Kashmir legal?” he asked.

Lone criticised what he termed selective enforcement, warning that punitive measures of this nature undermine public trust. He urged the administration to abandon its “fossilised mindset” and instead focus on reforms in building regulations and tourism policies to ensure fairness and transparency.

The demolition drive in Kangan has triggered discomfort among residents, with calls for accountability and clarity in enforcement actions. Lone reiterated that governance must be rooted in inclusivity and fairness rather than punitive displays of authority.
