Srinagar: Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Friday launched a scathing attack on the National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing them of misleading the public through their “double standards” on relations with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Speaking to reporters, Sharma said that while NC and PDP leaders publicly denounce the BJP, they privately maintain “cordial and frequent” meetings with top BJP leaders in New Delhi.

“Senior leaders from both the Abdullah and Mufti families have met Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L.K. Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Yet, they brand ordinary Kashmiris who engage with the BJP as impure,” Sharma alleged.

Calling it “political hypocrisy,” he said the regional parties were deliberately trying to confuse the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “When they dine with BJP leaders in Delhi, it’s seen as diplomacy; but when a common Kashmiri does so, it’s called betrayal,” he remarked.

Urging politicians to be transparent and truthful, Sharma accused the two parties of secretly collaborating while pretending to oppose each other in public. “They fear transparency because it exposes their politics,” he said, adding that recent comments by PDP president Mehbooba Mufti were intended to mislead voters for electoral gain.
