Srinagar: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, today met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to discuss the prevailing political and security situation in Jammu & Kashmir. Sharma also briefed the Home Minister on the damage caused by recent floods, submitting a detailed ground assessment report.

During the meeting, Sharma highlighted the evolving political and security dynamics in the Union Territory, stressing the need for peace and stability through effective governance, strengthened democratic institutions, and active public participation in development. He also raised concerns about internal security, emphasizing coordinated efforts to address emerging challenges and safeguard the interests of the people.

Sharma shared insights from his extensive visits to flood-affected areas, noting widespread damage to roads, schools, healthcare facilities, homes, and crops, along with the displacement of numerous families. He pointed out that many remote areas remain cut off due to damaged connectivity and broken communication lines.

He underlined the urgency of a coordinated relief and rehabilitation programme and advocated long-term measures, including climate-resilient infrastructure, enhanced disaster response mechanisms, and early warning systems. Sharma also highlighted the relief efforts already undertaken by BJP workers in the affected regions.

Home Minister Amit Shah assured full support for the people of Jammu & Kashmir, reaffirming the Union Government’s commitment to strengthening security, promoting political stability, and improving disaster preparedness in the region.

Sharma expressed gratitude to Amit Shah for his guidance and support and emphasized the importance of close collaboration between the Centre and the Union Territory administration to ensure peace, stability, progress, and timely relief for flood-affected communities.
