Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain suffered a 1-0 defeat at Olympique de Marseille in Monday’s rescheduled ‘Le Classique’, with Nayef Aguerd’s early header securing Marseille’s first home league win over their rivals since 2011.

The match had been postponed on Sunday due to heavy rain and storms. PSG, following five unbeaten league games, fell to their first defeat of the season, remaining on 12 points and ceding top spot to AS Monaco on goals scored.

“We are not used to losing games,” said PSG coach Luis Enrique, who was simultaneously named Coach of the Season at the Ballon d’Or awards in Paris. “I thought we played well and deserved a bit more. Losing a game like this is always tough, but we are a team of champions and must focus on preparing for the next match.”

Marseille came out strong, scoring within five minutes as Aguerd nodded in Mason Greenwood’s cross at the far post after PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier misjudged the ball.

PSG tried to respond, but Marseille nearly doubled their lead when Amine Gouiri struck the crossbar. Later, Benjamin Pavard’s goal for Marseille was ruled out for offside in the 30th minute.

Despite continued pressure, PSG struggled to convert opportunities. Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli made several crucial saves, including a sharp stop from Achraf Hakimi, while Goncalo Ramos headed over a prime chance after halftime.

Tensions flared late in the match, with Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbi sent off in stoppage time, shortly before his side held on to claim the win, moving up to sixth place with nine points.
