New Delhi, Dec 03: India on Tuesday rejected Pakistan’s allegation that New Delhi had denied overflight clearance for its aid flight to Sri Lanka, describing the claim as “ridiculous” and an attempt to spread misinformation. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the request was processed and approved within hours.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal clarified that the Pakistani request for overflight clearance was received at 1 pm on December 1 and was granted by 5:30 pm the same day as per the proposed itinerary. “We reject the ridiculous statement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, which is yet another attempt of spreading anti-India misinformation,” he said.
Officials noted that India remains committed to supporting humanitarian assistance in the region, with ongoing relief operations in Sri Lanka under Operation Sagar Bandhu. Since November 28, India has delivered 53 tonnes of relief material by air and sea, including medicines, food, and emergency supplies.
Diplomatic observers said the episode highlights India’s proactive role in regional disaster relief and its emphasis on timely humanitarian support, even as it counters attempts to politicise aid efforts.
