Kangan, Nov 20:People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday urged Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take up the safety concerns of Kashmiris residing outside the Union Territory with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Her appeal comes amid rising reports of harassment and intimidation faced by Kashmiri students, workers, and professionals in various states.

In a statement, Mehbooba said that Kashmiris pursuing education or employment in different parts of the country must be ensured full security and dignity. She noted that the recent incidents of alleged targeting have created anxiety among families back home, who fear for the well-being of their children and relatives.

Mehbooba stressed that the issue demanded immediate intervention at the highest level. She urged CM Omar to formally raise the matter with the Prime Minister to ensure that state governments across the country are instructed to safeguard Kashmiris and prevent any form of discrimination or hostility.

“Kashmiri students and workers contribute positively wherever they go. They must not be made to feel unsafe or singled out. It is the responsibility of all states to protect every citizen, irrespective of region or identity,” she said.

The PDP chief also appealed to civil society groups and educational institutions outside Jammu and Kashmir to remain sensitive to the situation and extend support to Kashmiris who may be feeling vulnerable. She emphasised that maintaining trust and harmony is essential for strengthening national unity.

Mehbooba further stated that political leadership within J&K must rise above differences and work jointly to ensure that no Kashmiri faces insecurity or discrimination. She expressed hope that the issue would receive prompt attention and that concrete measures would be taken to restore confidence among affected families.
