Men’s Inter-Hostel Football Tournament Concludes at NIT Srinagar

Srinagar: The much-awaited Inter-Hostel Football Tournament (Men) at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar concluded on a high note, marked by fierce competition, skillful play, and true sportsmanship.

Organized by the Students Activity & Sports (SAS) Centre, the tournament featured all hostel teams, with eight teams competing in this edition.

The grand finale was played between the 3rd-year and 2nd-year hostel teams, where the 2nd-year side emerged victorious with a narrow 1–0 win. Yameen Gatto (2024BCHE015) sealed the triumph with a decisive second-half goal.

The tournament was inaugurated by Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Mohammad Abid Bazaz, who highlighted the importance of such events in shaping the all-round development of students. “This final match reflected not only skill and strategy but also the spirit of unity and sportsmanship,” he remarked.

NIT Srinagar Director, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, praised the enthusiasm of participants. “Events like the Inter-Hostel Football Tournament nurture talent and instill discipline. I congratulate both winners and participants for their commendable efforts,” he said.

Registrar, Prof. Atikur Rehman, also applauded the teams, noting, “Such tournaments underscore the institute’s commitment to balancing academics with extracurricular activities. The teamwork and competitive spirit on display today were remarkable.”

I/c Faculty SAS, Dr. Manoj Kumar, commended the organizing team and emphasized the role of sports in building character. “The energy and discipline shown in this tournament reflect the values NIT Srinagar strives to foster. We will continue to support and expand such initiatives to strengthen the sporting culture on campus,” he said.

SAS Officer, Kowsar Ali Mir, announced that more inter-hostel tournaments are in the pipeline. “Our goal is to provide students with greater opportunities to engage in sports, promoting fitness, teamwork, and camaraderie alongside academics,” she said.

The event concluded with the distribution of trophies and medals, celebrating the champions and recognizing the efforts of all participating teams. The SAS Centre reaffirmed its commitment to organizing more such events to further student engagement and holistic development at NIT Srinagar.
