Srinagar, Aug 20: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Wednesday issued a detailed forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, warning of heavy rains and potential flash floods in the coming days.
According to the forecast, the weather will remain generally hot and humid across the Union Territory from August 20 to 22, with brief spells of rain or thundershowers in some areas. Isolated heavy showers are likely in Jammu, Reasi, Udhampur, Rajouri, Kathua and Samba on the night of August 22.
The most active weather spell is expected between August 23 and 26, when widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms is predicted across many areas. Heavy downpours may occur at a few locations in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions. Districts likely to be impacted include Jammu, Reasi, Udhampur, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, Anantnag and Kulgam, while moderate to intense rainfall is expected in Poonch, Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar.
From August 27 to 30, conditions are forecast to turn hot and humid again, with only occasional rain or thunderstorms in some places.
The Met Centre has cautioned about the possibility of intense downpours, cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides, mudslides and shooting stones during the August 23–26 period. Residents have been advised to stay away from rivers, streams, nallahs, loose structures and other vulnerable areas.
“All concerned departments and the general public are urged to follow the guidelines and take necessary precautions,” the advisory stated.
