Meta Ray-Ban Display Glasses: Gesture Control, WhatsApp Calls, No Phone Needed

Meta has unveiled the upgraded Ray-Ban smart glasses with a built-in display and gesture support. Revealed at the Meta Connect developer conference on Thursday morning, these glasses represent the company’s growing focus on wearable technology, taking its popular product line to a whole new level.

While smart glasses with displays are not entirely new—Google introduced similar technology years ago—Meta has heavily invested in its ecosystem. Early successes have driven the company to develop advanced products with more practical use cases.

Price and Availability
The Meta Ray-Ban Display Glasses are priced at $799 (approximately ₹70,000) and will launch in the US on September 30, with other regions expected to follow. The package includes both the glasses and a wristband.

Features: WhatsApp, Calls, and More
With a built-in display, the new Ray-Ban glasses go beyond music playback or Meta AI activation. Users can now read WhatsApp messages or make calls without constantly reaching for their phone—fulfilling a vision first imagined by Google’s Sergey Brin over a decade ago.

Although Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg attempted to demonstrate some features during the event, the demo didn’t go perfectly.

What sets Meta apart from Google Glass is the Meta Neural Band, which detects EMG signals and allows gesture-based control. Users can swipe their fingers to navigate apps or scroll through WhatsApp messages seamlessly. Meta notes that this technology also improves accessibility for individuals recovering from major injuries.

The band is lightweight, durable, and provides up to 18 hours of use, making it a practical companion—much like the controller for the Meta Quest headset.
