Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Thursday mourned the loss of lives in Ladakh, attributing the violent protests to the aftermath of the “unilateral decision to dismember and downgrade” Jammu and Kashmir.
“Deeply saddened by the loss of precious human life in Ladakh protests. The aftershocks of the unilateral decision to dismember and downgrade J&K, along with unfulfilled promises to its people, are resulting in these tragic consequences,” Mirwaiz wrote on X.

He expressed hope that the government honours its commitments to the people of Ladakh.
“Hope promises made to the people of Ladakh are honoured and lives are protected,” he added.
The unrest on Wednesday, during a shutdown called by the Leh Apex Body (LAB) in support of a statehood demand for Ladakh, left four people dead and at least 80 injured.
