Mirwaiz Umar Farooq pays a visit to former Hurriyat chief Abdul Gani Bhat’s residence

SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday visited the residence of Abdul Gani Bhat to offer condolences to the grieving family.

Released from house detention earlier in the day, Mirwaiz proceeded to Botingoo, Sopore, to pay his respects to the former Hurriyat chairman. Bhat, regarded as a moderate voice within the separatist leadership, passed away at his residence on Wednesday night at the age of 90.

“After three days of house detention, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Umar Farooq was released early this morning and visited the Botingoo, Sopore residence of senior Hurriyat leader and former chairman Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat, who passed away on Wednesday,” the Mirwaiz office said in a statement.
