New Delhi, Dec 02: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured India’s continued support to Sri Lanka under Operation Sagar Bandhu, reaffirming New Delhi’s commitment to regional solidarity and humanitarian assistance. The assurance came during a high-level interaction with Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, where both leaders discussed ongoing cooperation in maritime security and disaster relief.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized that India stands firmly with Sri Lanka in times of need. “Operation Sagar Bandhu reflects our shared vision of peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region. India will continue to extend all possible assistance to Sri Lanka,” he said.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe expressed gratitude for India’s support, noting that the initiative has played a crucial role in strengthening Sri Lanka’s disaster response capabilities. “India’s timely assistance has been invaluable. We look forward to deepening this partnership further,” he remarked.
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar highlighted that Operation Sagar Bandhu has evolved into a comprehensive framework for humanitarian aid, medical support, and capacity building. He added that the initiative underscores India’s role as a reliable partner in the region.
Officials confirmed that the latest phase of Operation Sagar Bandhu will focus on enhancing maritime cooperation, providing medical supplies, and supporting infrastructure projects in Sri Lanka. The program also includes training modules for Sri Lankan personnel in disaster management and coastal security.
Observers note that India’s continued engagement through Operation Sagar Bandhu strengthens bilateral ties and reinforces its vision of “Neighbourhood First” diplomacy. The initiative has been widely welcomed by Sri Lankan leaders and international partners as a model of regional cooperation.
