Tokyo: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said India and Japan will play a defining role in shaping the Asian century by fostering stability, growth and prosperity, as he began a two-day visit to the east Asian nation.
Speaking at the India-Japan Economic Forum, Modi highlighted that “Japan’s excellence and India’s scale” can form a perfect partnership for mutual growth. Showcasing India as an attractive investment hub, he underlined the country’s political and economic stability, transparency, and predictability in policymaking.
“In India, capital does not just grow, it multiplies,” he said, noting that India is currently the fastest-growing major economy and is poised to become the world’s third-largest.
The prime minister stressed that India has taken bold strides in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum computing, biotech and space, adding that Japanese technology and Indian talent can jointly lead the technological revolution of this century.
He described India as the “springboard” for Japanese businesses into the Global South and suggested that the successful partnership in the auto sector can be replicated in robotics, semiconductors, shipbuilding and nuclear energy.
Modi also recalled Japan’s long-standing role in India’s development journey. “From metros to manufacturing, semiconductors to start-ups, the India-Japan partnership has become a symbol of mutual trust,” he said.
The two nations, he added, can together make a significant contribution to the development of the Global South, particularly in Africa.
