Mumbai: Veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has been traded to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ahead of the IPL 2026 auction.

Shami, who was SRH’s second-costliest signing before the 2025 season at ₹10 crore, will join LSG at the same fee, the league confirmed.

With 119 IPL matches under his belt, Shami has represented Kolkata Knight Riders (2013–14), Delhi Capitals (2016–18), Punjab Kings (2019–21), Gujarat Titans (2022–23) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (2025). He has claimed 133 wickets at an average of 28.18, with best figures of 4/11.

A key member of Gujarat Titans, Shami won the Purple Cap in their 2023 runners-up campaign with 28 wickets in 17 matches. He missed the 2024 season due to injury but had starred in GT’s 2023 title win with 20 wickets.

His stint with SRH last season was below par, yielding just six wickets at an average of 56.16 and an economy rate of 11.23, with best figures of 2/28.

Shami last played for India during the ICC Champions Trophy in March, taking nine wickets in five games, including a five-for. Currently featuring for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, he has taken 15 wickets in three matches at an average of 15.53, including a 5/38.

He was not picked for India’s tour of England, the home Tests against West Indies and South Africa, or the white-ball tour of Australia. A strong IPL showing combined with impressive domestic performances could pave the way for his return to the national side.
