Nagpur: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday said that the reactions of various countries following the Pahalgam terror attack highlighted the true nature and extent of their friendship with India.

He was speaking at the RSS’s annual Vijayadashmi rally, which this year also marked the centenary of the organisation. The RSS was founded on Dussehra (September 27) in 1925 in Nagpur by physician Keshav Baliram Hedgewar.

“While we maintain friendly relations with other nations and will continue to do so, when it comes to our security, we must remain vigilant, careful, and strong. The positions taken by various countries after the Pahalgam attack revealed which of them are truly our friends, and to what extent,” Bhagwat said.

He recalled that terrorists had crossed the border and killed 26 Indians in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, targeting them based on their religion—a provocation that elicited a firm response from India, referencing Operation Sindoor.

“This incident caused immense pain and anger across the country. Our government responded decisively, showcasing the leadership’s resolve, the bravery of our armed forces, and the unity of our society,” he added.

Bhagwat noted that extremist elements had faced government action, while society distanced itself after recognising their “hollowness.” “They will be kept under control. A major hurdle in that region has now been removed,” he said.

He further stressed that the absence of schemes ensuring justice, development, goodwill, sensitivity, and strength often paves the way for extremist forces.

“Those frustrated by systemic delays may turn to extremist elements. To prevent this, the state and society must collaborate through initiatives that restore faith in the system,” Bhagwat said.

Former President Ram Nath Kovind was present as the chief guest at the event.
