Thiruvananthapuram: The much-awaited Mohanlal starrer Drishyam 3 has officially gone on floors, with shooting commencing on Monday.

The Drishyam franchise, which has enjoyed phenomenal success and inspired several remakes across Indian cinema, now returns with its third instalment under the direction of Jeethu Joseph.

Actor Mohanlal shared photos from the traditional puja ceremony on Instagram, marking the start of filming. The event included lamp lighting and rituals, attended by director Jeethu Joseph, producer Antony Perumbavoor, and the film’s crew. In the pictures, Mohanlal is seen holding the film’s clapboard before joining the team for the ceremony.

Helmed by Jeethu Joseph, Drishyam 3 once again features Mohanlal as Georgekutty, the character that earned him widespread acclaim. The first film of the series was released in 2013. Sharing the updates online, Mohanlal wrote: “Bringing Georgekutty’s world alive once again. Today marks the beginning of Drishyam 3 with the Pooja.”

The franchise revolves around Georgekutty and his family, who face relentless suspicion after the Inspector General’s son goes missing. Its gripping narrative has already been adapted into multiple hit remakes: Drishya (Kannada, 2014), Drushyam (Telugu, 2014), Papanasam (Tamil, 2015), Drishyam (Hindi, 2015), and Dharmayuddhaya (Sinhala, 2017).

Beyond India, the story is also heading to South Korea. Filmmaker Deok Noh will direct the remake under Anthology Studios, confirmed studio president Choi Jae-won at the Busan Asian Contents & Film Market.

Deok Noh rose to prominence with the 2013 romantic comedy Very Ordinary Couple, which won the Asian New Talent Award at the Shanghai International Film Festival. She later shifted to darker themes with the newsroom thriller The Exclusive: Beat the Devil’s Tattoo (2015), before venturing into episodic storytelling with the sci-fi anthology SF8 (2020) and Netflix’s mystery series Glitch (2022).
