Srinagar: Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid has reportedly been moved to Jail Number 1 in Delhi’s Tihar Prison following an alleged assault inside the jail premises.
According to his party, the independent MP from north Kashmir’s Baramulla constituency was relocated to another block after the incident raised serious security concerns.
A party spokesperson said Rashid, who has been lodged in Tihar, was allegedly attacked by some inmates during a routine interaction session.
Expressing concern, the party said it was “deeply disturbed” by the reports and demanded an independent inquiry into the alleged assault. “This is not just about one person — it concerns the safety of those in custody and the legal rights of all prisoners,” the spokesperson added.
Rashid was elected as an independent MP from Baramulla in the 2024 parliamentary elections while still in custody.
