JAMMU,: In continuation to the Union Territory’s concerted efforts under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’, a series of Information, Education and Communication campaigns were held across several Government Higher Secondary Schools in Jammu district to combat the menace of drug abuse and encourage the youth to lead a healthy, drug-free life.

Awareness programmes were held at GHSS Bhalwal, GHSS Muthi, GGHSS Satwari, GHSS Bhour Camp, GHSS Bahu Fort and GGHSS Miran Sahib, under the able guidance of school principals and with the active participation of students, teachers, local administration and officials from the Health, Police, Social Welfare and Information Departments.

The events commenced with traditional lamp-lighting ceremonies, followed by welcome addresses by school heads, setting the tone for the awareness drives. Experts from the Health Department elaborated on the devastating physical and mental effects of substance abuse, while officers from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Excise Department highlighted legal consequences and enforcement measures being taken to curb drug trafficking and use. Officials from the Social Welfare Department shared information on government-run helplines and rehabilitation initiatives for affected individuals and families.

Students across schools engaged the audience with thought-provoking skits, poems, folk songs, speeches and audio-visual presentations that depicted the harsh realities of addiction and urged youth to embrace a drug-free lifestyle. Cultural segments, pledge-taking ceremonies and interactive sessions formed a key part of these events, reinforcing the message of collective action and social responsibility.

At GHSS Muthi and GGHSS Miran Sahib, powerful student-led performances and speeches emphasized the importance of education and family involvement in shielding youth from drug-related influences. At GHSS Bhour Camp, a signature campaign and detailed awareness sessions discussed the root causes of addiction, symptoms and solutions.

All programmes concluded with pledges of commitment to the cause, highlighting the resolve of educational institutions and stakeholders to protect students and society from the harmful impact of drugs.
