Kochi: Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan on Friday emphasised the need for collective national efforts to combat the growing menace of cybersecurity threats.

Speaking at the inauguration of COCON 2025, the annual cybersecurity conference organised by the Kerala Police, Mohan said cybercrimes are increasing worldwide despite the implementation of strong defensive mechanisms.

He noted that alongside emerging offences like digital arrest, cyber-dependent crimes are also on the rise. “While investigation agencies must stay vigilant, the public too must remain cautious against cyber threats,” he said.

The inaugural session was presided over by MP Hibi Eden, and State Police Chief and DGP Revada Chandrashekhar delivered the keynote address.

During the event, Mohan also released a booklet titled “National Strategy Against Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse,” prepared by the Kerala Police.

COCON, which focuses on information security, data protection, and privacy, brings together representatives from corporate firms, government departments, investigation agencies, academia, research institutions, and cybersecurity experts.

The two-day conference features a range of technical, non-technical, legal, and community-oriented sessions and will conclude on Saturday.
