Abu Dhabi, Dec 02: The United Arab Emirates marked its 54th National Day today with nationwide celebrations under the theme “United,” commemorating the historic unification of the emirates in 1971. The official ceremony was held in Al Ain and live-streamed across all seven emirates.

The day honors the vision of the UAE’s founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who led the federation of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah in December 1971, with Ras Al Khaimah joining in February 1972. His legacy was remembered in speeches and cultural programs throughout the celebrations.

President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan extended greetings to citizens and residents, emphasizing that the National Day reflects the UAE’s unity, resilience, and progress. Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also congratulated the nation, noting that the UAE’s journey over five decades has been defined by innovation, tolerance, and global leadership.

Festivities included fireworks at landmarks such as Burj Khalifa in Dubai, Corniche in Abu Dhabi, and Al Qasba in Sharjah. Heritage exhibitions at Al Shindagha Museum and Hatta Heritage Village showcased traditional Emirati customs alongside modern achievements. Drone shows, concerts, and parades added to the spectacle, drawing participation from residents of more than 200 nationalities.

Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister, attended the official ceremony in Al Ain, where performances highlighted the UAE’s cultural diversity and future aspirations. Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum joined community events in Dubai, interacting with youth and volunteers.

Citizens and expatriates decorated homes, offices, and public spaces in national colors, while schools and universities organized special programs to instill pride in the younger generation. The four-day holiday allowed families to travel, attend community gatherings, and participate in cultural activities across the country.

The 54th National Day celebrations reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to unity, heritage, and progress, paying tribute to the leadership of Sheikh Zayed and the continued vision of the nation’s rulers.
