NEW DELHI, Dec 4: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday extended greetings to the Indian Navy on the occasion of Navy Day, saluting the brave men and women who safeguard the nation’s maritime borders. She said the Navy has always stood as a symbol of courage, commitment and professionalism, ensuring India’s security and protecting its strategic interests in the seas.

In her message, the President highlighted the Navy’s role in defending the country’s sovereignty and contributing to humanitarian missions, disaster relief and international cooperation. “The nation salutes our Navy personnel for their dedication and valour. Their service in safeguarding our maritime frontiers is a matter of great pride,” she stated.

President Murmu emphasised that the Navy has consistently modernised its capabilities, strengthening India’s position as a responsible maritime power. She noted that the force has played a vital role in ensuring safe sea lanes, combating piracy and supporting friendly nations in times of crisis.

She also underlined the importance of Navy Day as an occasion to honour the sacrifices and achievements of naval personnel. “On this Navy Day, let us acknowledge the indomitable spirit of our sailors and officers who continue to serve the nation with distinction,” she said.

Navy Day is celebrated every year on December 4 to commemorate the Indian Navy’s successful operations during the 1971 war, particularly the attack on Karachi harbour. The day is marked by ceremonial events, parades and outreach programmes showcasing the Navy’s strength and commitment to national security.

President Murmu’s message added to the nationwide tributes being paid to the naval force, reinforcing the recognition of its crucial role in safeguarding India’s maritime borders and advancing the country’s strategic interests.
