Srinagar, Nov 29: The National Conference (NC)-led government in Jammu and Kashmir is likely to undertake a cabinet reshuffle and expansion in January 2026, informed sources said. The decision comes after a review of the current Council of Ministers and ongoing discussions within the party leadership.

The party’s Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting, held on November 27–28, reportedly assessed the performance of existing ministers. It was decided that over the next one-and-a-half months, the leadership will evaluate the ministers’ work before finalising any changes or new appointments.

Currently, three ministerial positions remain vacant. With the constitutional limit allowing a council of ministers up to 10% of the total Assembly strength, the expansion will fill these vacancies and ensure a balanced and effective governance structure. The reshuffle is expected to improve regional representation, particularly in areas that have remained underrepresented.

Senior party leaders and MLAs have reportedly urged that the expanded cabinet reflect both performance-based evaluations and equitable regional representation. The leadership aims to inject fresh energy into the administration and strengthen the government’s outreach and public service delivery.

No formal announcement has been made yet, and the final composition of the reshuffled cabinet will be decided after internal consultations and formal review by the party high command. Observers note that the expansion could also influence political alliances and strengthen governance across Jammu & Kashmir.
