Srinagar: National Conference (NC) Lok Sabha MP Ruhullah Mehdi has urged the Jammu and Kashmir government to release the cabinet sub-committee report on reservation by Sunday.

The sub-committee has already submitted its report, and the concerned department has been directed to prepare a memo for cabinet approval before it is forwarded to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for his final consent.

Mehdi, who has been at odds with his party leadership for some time, set the Sunday deadline after meeting a delegation of students at his Budgam residence.

“Before any decision is taken regarding the Budgam by-election, the Reservation Sub-Committee Report must be made public and shared with stakeholders by tomorrow,” Mehdi stated on his official X handle.

He assured that communication channels with student representatives would remain open, adding, “Any future decision will depend on the contents of the report.”

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Saturday that the reservation report would be made public only after receiving the Lieutenant Governor’s approval.

Responding to demands for immediate disclosure, Omar said during a press conference, “No government works under pressure, and I am the last person you can pressurise. There is a procedure, and it is being followed. It would be not just improper but almost illegal to release information that hasn’t even reached the LG.”
