SRINAGAR: National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday paid rich tributes to party founder Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah on his 43rd death anniversary.
The father-son duo offered floral tributes at Sheikh Abdullah’s mausoleum at Naseembagh in the Hazratbal area, where special prayers were also held.
Popularly known as Sher-e-Kashmir, Sheikh Abdullah is remembered for landmark reforms such as the Land to the Tiller Act and the right to education, which transformed Jammu and Kashmir’s socio-economic landscape. He also played a crucial role in the state’s accession to the Union of India.
Several senior NC leaders, including Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, and party general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar, were also present on the occasion.
