JAMMU: The Centre for Women’s Studies (CWS), University of Jammu, in collaboration with the National Commission for Women (NCW), organized a one-day awareness workshop, “Campus Calling,” on the theme “Gender Sensitivity, POSH, and Cyber Security” at the University campus today.
The event was graced by Vijaya Rahatkar, Chairperson of NCW, as the chief guest. Addressing the participants, she emphasized the vital role of youth engagement in promoting gender sensitivity and women’s empowerment on campuses nationwide, highlighting the importance of leadership training and awareness among students to build an inclusive and equitable society.
In her presidential address, Prof. Sangeeta Gupta, Dean of Planning and Development, University of Jammu, described gender sensitivity as a conscious effort to recognize and respect the challenges and inequalities faced by individuals based on their gender. She also lauded the CWS for its dedication to gender equality and women empowerment.
Prof. Savita Nayyar, Director of CWS, welcomed the guests and provided an overview of gender sensitivity, POSH, and cyber security. She noted that as the world becomes increasingly digital and diverse, ensuring dignity, safety, and equality is a collective responsibility. She added that the workshop, part of NCW’s Campus Calling initiative, is a crucial step in raising awareness, fostering dialogue, and building capacity to cultivate responsible citizens who uphold respect and inclusion. Prof. Nayyar also expressed gratitude to Vice Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai for promoting platforms that support youth, particularly women, through dialogue and skill-building initiatives.
The program was further honored by Prof. Naresh Padha, Senior Professor, Department of Physics, as a special guest, while Advocate Kiran Thakur, founder and Director of Navridhi Welfare Foundation, led the technical sessions. The workshop concluded with faculty, students, and department heads taking a collective pledge to create a safe, inclusive, and gender-just environment.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 250 students, along with faculty members and heads of departments across the University.
