New Delhi: NDA candidate C. P. Radhakrishnan on Wednesday filed his nomination papers for the vice presidential election, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and other senior leaders.
Modi, flanked by Radhakrishnan and senior NDA figures, submitted four sets of nomination papers to Rajya Sabha Secretary-General P. C. Mody, the returning officer for the election. The four sets listed Modi, Singh, Shah, and JD(U) leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh as lead proposers.
After examining the papers, the returning officer had Radhakrishnan sign the register and then issued an acknowledgment slip of the nomination to the Prime Minister. Radhakrishnan was accompanied to the returning officer’s office by Modi, Shah, senior ministers Pralhad Joshi and Dharmendra Pradhan, as well as NDA allies including TDP leader and Union Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu, Shiv Sena leader Shrikant Shinde, and LJP leader Chirag Paswan.
Earlier, Radhakrishnan paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and other national leaders at Prerna Sthal in the Parliament complex, which features statues of iconic personalities. Accompanied by Union ministers and other BJP-led alliance leaders, Radhakrishnan’s election as Vice President is widely seen as a certainty.
