NEW DELHI: Star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has secured his place in the Diamond League 2025 Final in Zurich, Switzerland, scheduled for August 27-28.
Chopra, the reigning world champion, skipped the Diamond League meeting in Silesia, Poland, on August 16, and his participation in the Brussels leg on August 22 remains uncertain. Nevertheless, the Indian ace has already booked his spot in the final, according to the latest standings released after the Silesia meet.
With 15 points from two Diamond League events—earned through one title and one second-place finish—the two-time Olympic medallist has effectively sealed his qualification for the winner-takes-all finale.
In the current standings, Chopra sits third behind Keshorn Walcott (17 points) and Julian Weber (15 points). The top six athletes after the Brussels leg will advance to the Zurich final.
Chopra’s most recent competition was the NC Classic on July 5 in Bengaluru, where he claimed victory with a throw of 86.18m at the event he hosted.
Earlier this year, the 27-year-old surpassed the 90m mark at the Doha Diamond League in May, recording a throw of 90.23m, though he finished second to Weber. He then clinched the Paris Diamond League title in June with a throw of 88.16m.
Looking ahead, Chopra will defend his title at the World Championships in Tokyo, scheduled from September 13-21.
