Kathmandu: The Nepal Army on Wednesday imposed nationwide restrictive orders from morning until 5 pm, followed by a curfew lasting until 6 am the next day, aiming to prevent potential violence disguised as protest.

In an official statement, the Army warned that any acts of demonstration, vandalism, arson, or attacks on individuals and property during this period would be treated as criminal offenses and dealt with strictly.

The restrictive measures are effective across the country from morning to 5 pm, after which a curfew will remain in force until 6 am on Thursday. The Army stated that the steps were necessary to prevent possible incidents of looting, arson, and other destructive activities under the pretext of agitation.

“There are also potential threats of sexual assault and violent attacks against individuals,” the statement added.

The Army emphasized that vehicles and personnel providing essential services—such as ambulances, fire engines, health workers, and security forces—would be allowed to operate during both the restrictive orders and the curfew.

Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli resigned on Tuesday, shortly after hundreds of protesters entered his office demanding his exit over the deaths of at least 19 people during Monday’s demonstrations. These protests, led by Gen Z groups, were sparked by corruption allegations and a temporary government ban on social media, which was lifted Monday night.

Despite his resignation, unrest continued, with protesters setting fire to the Parliament, the President’s Office, the Prime Minister’s residence, government buildings, political party offices, and homes of senior leaders.
