Tel Aviv: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he has directed the army to launch “powerful strikes” in Gaza, posing a new challenge to the US-brokered ceasefire.
The announcement came shortly after Israel accused Hamas of opening fire on its forces in southern Gaza. Tensions had already escalated following Hamas’s return of remains that Israel identified as belonging to an Israeli hostage killed earlier in the conflict.
