New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday said it conducted searches at 21 locations across five states and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in connection with a terror conspiracy case linked to ISIS and other terrorist organisations.

The searches, carried out on Monday, spanned Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

The NIA, which took over the case from Kayar police in Chengalpattu district of Tamil Nadu in June this year, seized several digital devices, including mobile phones, along with incriminating documents during the operations, according to an official statement.

The case originated with the arrest of Akhlathur, also known as Mohammed Akhlque Mujahid, who allegedly conspired with others to carry out terrorist acts in India. The agency noted that he maintained links with multiple entities in Pakistan and Syria.

“The conspiracy aimed to mobilise manpower and resources to wage jihad against India by aligning with banned terrorist organisations,” the statement said. Investigations revealed that the accused was in regular contact with these groups through social media platforms.
