Mortal Remains Flown to Tamil Nadu | NIT Srinagar Extends Support to Bereaved Family

Srinagar: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar has expressed deep sorrow over the untimely passing of Dr. Sagadevan R, Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, who breathed his last in Srinagar on Saturday. His sudden demise has left the campus community in shock and mourning.

On Monday, Dr. Sagadevan’s mortal remains were flown to his hometown in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, where the last rites will be performed on Tuesday. Faculty members of NIT Srinagar accompanied the body to ensure a dignified farewell.

The Institute conveyed its heartfelt gratitude to the Jammu and Kashmir Government, SKIMS Soura, and other authorities for providing the best possible medical care and extending timely support in completing medical and legal formalities. Special thanks were extended to the Director SKIMS Soura, SP Hazratbal, Police Control Room (Embalming Section), Indigo Cargo, and the Airport Authority of India for facilitating the smooth transportation of the remains.

NIT Srinagar Director Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia expressed profound grief, calling the loss both personal and institutional. “We ensured that Dr. Sagadevan’s body was sent to his family with full dignity and respect. We remain in constant touch with the bereaved family and extend our complete support in this difficult hour,” he said.

Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman, along with Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty, and staff, also conveyed their condolences. He described the demise as a “major loss to the academic community,” highlighting Dr. Sagadevan’s dedication to teaching, research, and mentoring young scholars.

Faculty members and students remembered him as a committed teacher, an accomplished researcher, and a humble mentor. Many fondly recalled his approachable nature, sincerity, and passion for academic excellence.

Born and educated in Tamil Nadu, Dr. Sagadevan completed his B.E. in Civil Engineering from the College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University, Chennai (2011). He pursued an M.Tech in Structural Engineering at IIT Madras (2013) and earned his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from IIT Madras in 2020. His academic brilliance and research expertise earned him wide recognition.

The NIT Srinagar fraternity stands in solidarity with Dr. Sagadevan’s family in this hour of grief. His contributions as a teacher, researcher, and mentor will be remembered with respect and gratitude.
