Hindi Pakhwada Celebrations to Continue Till September 29

Srinagar: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Monday observed Hindi Diwas to mark the historic occasion when the Constituent Assembly adopted Hindi (September 14, 1949) as the official language of the Union government.

The event was held as part of the ongoing 15-day Hindi Pakhwada celebrations organized by the Rajbhasha Cell, which will continue until September 29 with a series of activities and competitions.

The function was attended by several dignitaries, including Prof. Mohammad Noor Salam Khan, former Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering; Mr. Mubashir Ahmad Wani, Assistant Registrar (Administration); Mr. Mohammad Iqbal Dar, Assistant Registrar (Academics) and Hindi Teaching Supervisor; Dr. R.P. Shukla, In-charge Hindi Officer and Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering; and Dr. Sabzar Gani Batoo, Hindi Anuvadak. Departmental coordinators and ministerial staff from across the institute also participated, adding to the vibrancy of the occasion.

In his message, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, extended greetings to the campus community.
Hindi Diwas reminds us of our responsibility to nurture and promote our national language. At NIT Srinagar, we remain committed to encouraging the use of Hindi in administrative, academic, and research activities,” he said. Prof. Kanaujia further noted that fostering Hindi alongside other Indian languages reflects respect for diversity while strengthening national unity.

Registrar of the Institute, Prof. Atikur Rehman, also emphasized the unifying power of language.
“Hindi, as our Rajbhasha, symbolizes unity in diversity. At NIT Srinagar, we fully support the initiatives of the Rajbhasha Cell and encourage our staff to adopt Hindi in official communication. Such programs not only preserve our linguistic heritage but also instill pride among the younger generation,” he said.

Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Noor Salam Khan spoke on the enduring relevance of Hindi as Rajbhasha. He highlighted its role in bridging cultural and regional gaps, while clarifying that promoting Hindi does not undermine other Indian languages but rather strengthens inclusivity and collective identity.

Assistant Registrar (Academics) and Hindi Teaching Supervisor, Mr. Mohammad Iqbal Dar, reviewed the progress of the Rajbhasha Cell, noting its regular orientation programs, workshops, and competitions to enhance awareness and proficiency among staff.

Dr. R.P. Shukla, In-charge Hindi Officer, extended a vote of thanks, appreciating the contribution of resource persons, coordinators, and participants.
The spirit of Hindi Diwas lies in collective participation. It is encouraging to see the enthusiasm of our staff and faculty in supporting the vision of promoting Hindi in academic and administrative domains,” he said. Dr. Shukla also announced that Hindi Pakhwada will run from September 14 to 29, 2025, with a focus on strengthening the use of Hindi in official work.

Hindi Anuvadak, Dr. Sabzar Gani Batoo, underscored the importance of professional translation services in institutions to make official communication more accessible. He said initiatives like Hindi Diwas should inspire continuous efforts throughout the year.

The program concluded with participants taking a pledge to promote the use of Hindi in their daily official work and to encourage others to recognize its cultural and administrative significance.

Observed annually, Hindi Diwas highlights the importance of the Hindi language in fostering national integration and promoting its wider use across government institutions.
