NIT Srinagar Climbs Six Spots in NIRF 2025 Engineering Rankings; Director Credits Faculty, Staff, and Students

Srinagar: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar has advanced six places in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025, securing the 73rd rank in the Engineering category, up from 79th last year. In the Overall category, the Institute maintained its position in the 101–150 band, reflecting consistent progress across multiple performance indicators.

For the 2024–25 cycle, the NIRF data submission was overseen by former NIRF Chairman Prof. Najeeb Ud Din and former Nodal Officer Dr. Harveer Singh Pali.

Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, described the ranking as a testament to the Institute’s growing stature.

“Rankings are milestones, not destinations. Every step upward shows that our efforts—from classrooms to laboratories, and local collaborations to global networks—are being recognized. This achievement belongs to every student, researcher, and staff member who shares NIT Srinagar’s vision,” he said.

Prof. Kanaujia added that while the improvement is encouraging, sustaining and advancing the Institute’s position will require continued dedication.

“Maintaining this momentum is challenging. The new NIRF Chairman and Coordinator must work with renewed focus to ensure the Institute continues to excel in research, academics, and national visibility,” he said.

Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman called the achievement a proud milestone.

“Rising from 79 to 73 in the Engineering category is a significant step forward. I applaud all departments for their efforts and urge them to continue their dedicated work,” he said.

Chairman NIRF, Prof. Babar Ahmad, highlighted the collaborative effort behind the success, emphasizing the synergy between teaching and non-teaching staff. He also acknowledged the active participation of Deans, HoDs, HoCs, faculty, staff, and students in achieving this milestone.

NIRF Coordinator, Dr. Vijay Kumar, expressed gratitude for the teamwork involved in preparing the submissions, thanking former NIRF Chairman Prof. Najeeb-ud-Din and former Nodal Officer Dr. Harveer Singh Pali for their contributions. Dr. Vijay also recognized the support of NIRF Junior Assistant, Mr. Ajay Kumar.

The NIRF 2025 rankings, announced on Thursday by the Ministry of Education in New Delhi, mark the 10th edition of this annual evaluation. Launched in 2015, NIRF assesses higher education institutions across categories such as Engineering, Management, Medical, Law, and Overall performance. Rankings are based on key parameters, including Teaching, Learning, and Resources (TLR); Research and Professional Practice (RP); Graduation Outcomes (GO); Outreach and Inclusivity (OI); and Perception (PR).
