North Kashmir Range DIG assesses counter-terrorism readiness in Kupwara

Srinagar: Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir Range (NKR), Maqsood-ul-Zaman, on Wednesday visited Kupwara district to review the security situation and assess counter-terrorism preparedness, officials said.

During his visit, Zaman inspected various operational units and held interactions with senior officers, including Kupwara SSP Ghulam Jeelani.

“At the SOG camp in Lolab, the DIG chaired a meeting with personnel to address their concerns and grievances. Several issues related to welfare and operational requirements were resolved on the spot, while directives were issued for prompt resolution of remaining matters,” an official said.

On counter-terrorism readiness, Zaman conducted a detailed on-ground assessment to ensure smooth and efficient operational functioning across the district. A comprehensive briefing on terrorism and security challenges was presented by Kupwara ASP Syed Javaid, who also serves as SP (Operations), covering recent threat perceptions, operational strategies, and area domination plans.

“The discussions were thorough, emphasizing high operational alertness, intelligence sharing, and coordination among all security stakeholders,” the official added.

The DIG later visited Dardpora Lolab to review field operations and deployment patterns in sensitive areas. He interacted with officers and jawans, appreciating their dedication to maintaining peace and stability in the region.

Addressing the personnel, Zaman underscored the importance of people-friendly policing alongside firm action against elements threatening peace. He also highlighted community engagement, confidence-building measures, and ongoing training to equip personnel for evolving security challenges.
