BEIJING: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is set to make a rare foreign visit next week to China, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. Since assuming power in 2011, Kim has made several trips across Asia.

Key overseas visits include:

March 2018: Kim makes his first trip abroad since taking power, visiting China and meeting President Xi Jinping.

May 2018: He arrives in Dalian, China, becoming the first North Korean leader in decades to travel overseas by plane.

June 2018: Kim travels to Singapore for his first summit with US President Donald Trump, followed by another visit to China.

January 2019: Another visit to China.

February 2019: Kim travels to Vietnam for his second summit with Trump.

April 2019: Visits Russia for a high-profile summit with President Vladimir Putin in Vladivostok.

September 2023: Travels by train to meet Putin again at a Russian space facility.
