Nothing OS 4.0 With Android 16 Update Rolling Out Soon

Nothing has started testing the Android 16 beta in recent weeks, and the official release for Phone 3 users is just around the corner. The company confirmed that the stable Android 16 update will soon roll out to eligible devices—though the first-gen Phone 1 won’t be part of the list.

Nothing has been teasing the launch of its new software since unveiling the Phone 3 in July, even running a closed beta program for select users. Now, the company has given a sneak peek at what to expect from Nothing OS 4.0, its Android 16-based update.

The teaser highlights a refreshed design featuring circular icons across default apps. Described as “refined and redefined,” the update seems focused more on polishing the interface rather than overhauling it, with tweaks to layouts and subtle design changes.

Nothing OS 4.0 has generated plenty of anticipation—not only because it is built on Android 16 but also because it reflects the brand’s growing emphasis on software. Many fans consider Nothing’s clean and minimalist interface one of the best on Android.

On the hardware side, the Phone 3 hasn’t lived up to expectations in India. Launched at ₹79,999, it struggled to justify its premium positioning against rival flagships. As a result, its price has already dropped below ₹50,000 across platforms. To boost sales, Nothing is even planning a special sale offer on the Phone 3 next week.

The company admits that the Phone 3 wasn’t specifically designed for markets like India, where its Phone (a) series caters to the mid-range audience. However, with the upcoming price cut, the Phone 3 could find new takers in a more competitive price bracket.
