MOSCOW: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov on Friday to discuss military-technical cooperation and the progress of joint projects in key strategic sectors.

Doval is in Russia for high-level talks on energy and defence partnerships, as well as to prepare for President Vladimir Putin’s upcoming visit to India later this year.

According to the Russian Embassy in India, the discussions covered “topical issues of #RussiaIndia military-technical cooperation” and joint initiatives in civil aircraft manufacturing, metallurgy, and the chemical industry.

A day earlier, Doval met President Putin at the Kremlin, reaffirming India’s commitment to deepen cooperation with Russia across all sectors despite external pressure.

The visit comes against the backdrop of US President Donald Trump imposing an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods—raising the total to 50%—as a penalty for India’s continued purchase of Russian oil.

Sources said Doval personally conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation for Putin to visit India later this year, which the Russian leader accepted “with gratitude.”
