Srinagar, Nov 19: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today expressed deep concern over the continuing incidents of violence in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 has failed to bring an end to bloodshed in the region. He noted that innocent lives are still being lost, despite repeated assurances of peace and stability.
Addressing reporters in Kulgam, the Chief Minister said, “We were told that this cycle of violence will end after 2019. But, it has not. Jammu and Kashmir, especially Kashmir, has witnessed so much bloodshed in the last 30-35 years. We want this cycle to stop.”
Omar Abdullah stressed that those responsible for security in the Union Territory must be held accountable for lapses that continue to endanger civilian lives. He pointed to recent blasts in Delhi and Srinagar as evidence that violence remains a pressing challenge.
The Chief Minister reiterated that peace and stability are essential for the future of Jammu and Kashmir. He urged all stakeholders to work collectively to ensure that the cycle of violence is broken and that the people of the region can live without fear.
Omar Abdullah reaffirmed his government’s commitment to safeguarding citizens and called for transparency and accountability in security operations across the Union Territory.
