SRINAGAR, Dec 4: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today announced that the Cabinet has adopted a transparent and rational process for the rationalisation of reservation, fulfilling the promise made to the people. He emphasised that the decision reflects the government’s commitment to fairness, inclusivity, and accountability in policy-making.

Addressing the media, the Chief Minister stated that the rationalisation exercise was carried out after extensive consultations and careful consideration of public concerns. “We had assured the people that the reservation policy would be reviewed in a transparent manner, and today’s Cabinet decision is a step towards honouring that assurance,” Omar Abdullah said.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the rationalisation process aims to ensure equitable opportunities across communities, while maintaining the integrity of constitutional provisions. He added that the government remains committed to safeguarding the interests of all sections of society, particularly those who have historically been disadvantaged.

Officials explained that the rationalisation framework has been designed to eliminate ambiguities, strengthen implementation, and provide clarity to beneficiaries. The move is expected to streamline the reservation system and enhance public confidence in its fairness.

Omar Abdullah reiterated that the Cabinet’s decision is part of a broader agenda to deliver transparent governance and responsive administration. He urged citizens to view the rationalisation as a positive step towards building a more just and inclusive society.

The announcement has been welcomed by various stakeholders, who see it as a significant measure to align reservation policies with contemporary needs while upholding the principles of equality and justice.
