ChatGPT Pulse: Your Always-On AI Assistant

ChatGPT Pulse is OpenAI’s new AI-powered personal assistant that goes beyond answering questions—it proactively provides tips, updates, and personalized insights.

AI chatbots are rapidly evolving, and Pulse is a step toward making them more interactive and useful in everyday life. Unlike traditional reactive assistants, Pulse works in the background 24×7, tracking your interests, recent conversations, and connected data to deliver tailored updates.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman explains: “Pulse works for you overnight, keeping track of your interests, data, and recent chats. Every morning, you get a custom-generated set of recommendations.” These updates appear as cards inside the ChatGPT mobile app. For now, Pulse is limited to ChatGPT Pro subscribers, but it’s expected to expand to Plus users soon.

The move highlights a broader industry trend—AI assistants are becoming more personalized, offering value not just when you ask questions, but by anticipating your needs. Altman sees this as “a shift from reactive to proactive, and extremely personalized AI.”

Still, personalization comes at a cost. To act as a true assistant, ChatGPT may require access to personal data such as phone usage, location, and browsing history. This raises concerns about data privacy and the potential for ad-driven monetization in lower-tier plans. Without premium subscriptions, users may find themselves trading privacy for convenience.

In many ways, Pulse signals the future of AI assistants—always present, always learning, and increasingly central to how we manage our digital lives.
