OpenAI Launches Sora 2 AI for Advanced Video Generation on iOS
OpenAI has unveiled the Sora 2 AI model, a major upgrade in video generation, alongside the Sora iOS app, which allows users to create and edit AI-generated videos using text prompts. While Sora has existed for some time, Google’s Veo 3 app has recently set the benchmark for AI-driven video creativity.
OpenAI claims that Sora 2 produces videos that were previously “exceptionally difficult or outright impossible” with earlier AI models. Unlike current AI video tools, which often reveal their synthetic nature, Sora 2 promises more realistic physics, such as waves casting accurate shadows or interacting naturally with objects like boats.
Sora 2 App for iPhone: A Potential TikTok and Instagram Rival
The Sora app brings the full capabilities of Sora 2 to mobile users. While it competes with platforms like TikTok and Instagram, Sora differentiates itself with AI-driven features that let creators push the boundaries of imagination and video quality.
Currently, the app is available in Canada and the U.S. by invite only, with early access prioritized for ChatGPT Pro subscribers. Broader access is expected in the coming weeks.
With Sora 2, users can create immersive video backgrounds, add sound effects, remix content, and even insert themselves into videos, making the experience more interactive and realistic. The app’s AI features could redefine social media video creation, blending creativity with technology in ways reminiscent of a “Studio Ghibli for videos.”
OpenAI, however, cautions that the model is not perfect and may make mistakes, a reminder for users to approach the tool thoughtfully.
