OpenAI to Offer One-Year Free ChatGPT Go Access in India from November 4
New Delhi: OpenAI on Tuesday announced that all users in India who sign up during a special promotional period starting November 4 will receive free access to ChatGPT Go for one year.
The offer coincides with OpenAI’s first DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru, also scheduled for November 4, and marks the company’s growing focus on India.
ChatGPT Go, OpenAI’s recently launched subscription plan, provides users with access to advanced features such as higher message limits, enhanced image generation, longer memory, and the ability to upload more files and images—all powered by OpenAI’s latest GPT-5 model.
Initially introduced in India in August 2025, ChatGPT Go quickly gained popularity as an affordable option for users seeking premium capabilities. Within a month of launch, India’s paid ChatGPT user base more than doubled, prompting OpenAI to expand the plan to over 90 countries.
India is now ChatGPT’s second-largest and fastest-growing market, with millions of students, professionals, and developers using the platform daily to learn, create, and innovate.
OpenAI said the new initiative reinforces its “India-first” strategy and supports the government’s IndiaAI Mission, which aims to promote widespread access to AI tools and foster innovation. The company is also collaborating with educational platforms, civil society groups, and government programs to make AI use more inclusive.
Existing ChatGPT Go subscribers in India will also qualify for the free 12-month offer, with additional details to follow.
Nick Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, said the move was inspired by how Indian users are leveraging AI:
“Ahead of our first DevDay Exchange event in India, we’re making ChatGPT Go freely available for a year to help more people across India access and benefit from advanced AI. We’re excited to see the incredible things our users will build, learn, and achieve.”
